Date/Place of Birth/Baptism:  6 October 1934. 12, Westfields, Wotton-Under-Edge (family home). Baptised at St Mary the Virgin Wotton-Under-Edge, 18 Nov 1934

1939 register shows Ann at school, her father Morris was working as an aircraft wing assembler, mother Emma housewife unpaid.They were living at 78 Northville Road, Sudbury.  A note says Morris was part of St John’s Ambulance.

Parents: Morris Lloyd Jones and Emma Powell.  She suffered considerable stress from her mother having bipolar disorder then called manic depression.  Cared informally for her most of her life, as her mother moved to Sticklepath soon after first daughter was born.  Father died when she was at University and  when returning home 20 Jun 1954 she thought people had gathered to welcome her but it was in fact that her father had died. 

Siblings:  None.  Evacuated during the war to the Beakes’ in Wotton-Under-Edge, family friends.  Molly was like a big sister to her.  Norman Beakes the big brother she wished she had. She later taught in Wotton and made lifelong friend Miss Dorothy Wren also a teacher she shared a house with. 

Date/Place of Marriage:  Bristol 30 Mar 1957  Bridesmaids 5 who all wore different colours with lace over the top. Celebrated her Emerald wedding anniversary 55 years (though had dementia).

Spouse: Charles ROGER Finch Bowden

Children:  Helen Finch Bowden, Charles MICHAEL Finch Bowden, Ruth Finch Bowden

Occupations: Helped with running the green grocery shop, Maths degree at Exeter University (where she met Roger, also doing Maths) gaining a “Bachelor of Science from London University”1957.  Maths and PE teacher Wotton-Under-Edge.  Helped run Bowden’s Haulage and later Bowden’s Hostas.  Very active on committee eg Women’s Institute (appeared on TV concerning a WI resolution she proposed to ban cyclamates as thought to cause cancer and in children’s squash). Awarded the MBE for work on South West Electricity Board consumer council. First Chair of Sticklepath Parish Council when it was set up (1987). 

Religion: Brought up C of E.  Swopped the ‘promise to obey’ her husband for becoming tee total in the car from the church to the reception so she said. Mainly aligned with Methodist Chapel in Sticklepath, eg making mince pies for Christmas carol service and taking a major part in decorating the Chapel at harvest festival etc etc.

Places of Residence:  12, Westfields, Wotton-Under-Edge,  Dovercourt Road Bristol, living above the shop.  Exeter (university), Cleave House Sticklepath. 

Date/Place of Death/Burial:  Died 14 October 2015.  Funeral left from Cleave House Sticklepath 22nd October Cremation Exeter Crematorium.  Memorial Service Fairplace Okehampton
